Yesterday was such a cloudy, cold gloomy day that you just wanted to burrow in with the groundhog and not come up for 5 more weeks! On days like this a good book and a nice pot of tea really comfort the soul.
My friend April and I were planning a trip to Chester, NJ to search for a pretty second hand silver tea service. I need this for the "Duchess' Afternoon Tea Guild" photo shoot for the new catalog. But like I mentioned previously, it just wasn't a good day for it. So after talking on the phone, we decided to get a few things done around the house and meet at 4:oo for Tea time!
I worked on the last 3 pages for the new catalog; Serving with Style, How to set a beautiful Tea Table and A Passion for Tea. As I put together the content for the Serving with style page I searched for an article on table settings. I wasn't able to find an article that spoke to me, so I pulled out my Tea Time library. I had forgotten what a nice collection I've accumulated over the years! What fun it was to revist some oldies but goodies, and some sure favorites. It was like having a cup of tea with dear old friends! Do you have some favorite tea books that you would like to reccommend? I'm always looking for books to share with our consultants.
Before I knew it, 4:00 had arrived and off I went, bundled up, to April's house down the hill. I wondered what selection she would make. I do know a few of her favorites and decided that the anticipation was indeed part of the fun of meeting her for tea.
Her Kitchen table was set for three, as her husband would be joining us. I love it when you are able to just pull a few things out from your pantry and share a tea party, don't you? We indulged on fresh strawberries, spinach spread with crackers and iced sugar cookies! Her choice of tea; Cranberry Harvest, a wonderful black tea with hint of citrus and cranberry flavors. We talked and just enjoyed each others company on what started out as a gloomy day! When I left I felt renewed and ready to tackle my next catalog step!
Can you put together a Tea Party for a friend in a spontaneous manner? Do you have a store of favorite teas in your cupboard? Are your favorite teacups hiding in the back recesses of your dining room hutch, don't you think it's time to dust them off and enjoy them again.? Who would you call to enjoy a 4:00 tea with today?
